KITA (Chairman: Jin Sik Yoon) hosted K-HALAL Global Economic Cooperation Forum on Thursday, 27 August at KITA HQs in Seoul.
K-HALAL Global Economic Cooperation Forum was held at KITA HQs in Seoul. This forum was organised to a) raise awareness of the importance of Halal zone market, which accounts for a quarter of the global population or approximately two billion people, that is growing 6% every year on average and b) ponder on possible avenues for Korean businesses in entering this market. Approximately 150 people attended the forum, including KITA Executive Vice Chairman In-ho Lee, H.E. Jamal Abdulla Al Suwaidi, the ambassador of the UAE and business representatives from companies with plans to enter the Halal zone market.
KITA recently opened two KITA K-Halal Bridges in June this year at KITA UAE Centre and KITA Jakarta Centre to serve as launching points in supporting businesses to make inroads into the global Halal consumer goods market, with estimated size of 400 billion dollars a year*. Two KITA K-Halal Bridges are offering assistance with market research and consultations on establishing busines in the Halal zone, along with engaging in outreach activities with relevant officials from the government and institutions in this promising region for business. Such efforts are aimed at removing potential barriers for Korean businesses in expanding into this region and diversifying the export portfolio of Korean-made consumer goods.

In his opening remarks, KITA Executive Vice Chairman In-ho Lee mentioned, "The Halal market is no longer limited to a religious dietary guideline and is receiving attention with high growth potential among the younger generation for its emphasis on healthy and ethical consuming behaviour." He added, "KITA is committed to offering unwavering support for Korean consumer goods companies in entering the Halal zone through our K-Halal Bridges."
