KITA's Chairman Requested Iranian Ambassador to Korea to Abolish Detention of 'Korea Chemie'

- Chairman requested in person when Iranian Ambassador made a courtesy visit to KITA following the letter to the Iran Chamber of Commerce sent out on January 6 -

The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman: Kim Young-ju) requested the Iranian Ambassador to Korea and the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture to take more active steps for the rapid abolition of detention of the 'Korea Chemie' owned by DM Shipping, a Korean shipping company, seized in the Strait of Hormuz.

On January 8, Chairman Kim met with Iranian Ambassador to Korea Saed Badamchi Shavestari at the Trade Tower in Samseong-dong, Seoul, and asked him to step up to make sure safe and prompt release of the detained ship and crew members.

In a letter to Gholam Hossein Shafei, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, sent out on January 6, Chairman Kim said, "Korea and Iran have a strong potential to become important trading partners to each other," and added, “In particular, this year, as business people in both countries are exerting every effort to overcome the pandemic, I hope that this incident will not freeze trade and exchanges between the two countries and the Iran Chamber of Commerce will also contribute to the prompt abolition of the detention of the Korean ship and crew.”
