    KITA Held ‘Korea-ASEAN & India Business Week 2019’


    - 800 business people from home and abroad participated in the international forum, seminar and export consultation session pursued ‘One Asia’ -



    The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman Kim Young-Joo, chairman of New Southern Business Federation) and the Presidential Committee on New Southern Policy jointly hosted ‘Korea-ASEAN & India Business Week 2019’ at COEX in Samseong-dong for two days from June 24th to 25th.


    The event, held under the theme of ‘Digital Economy (One-Asia)’, was designed to provide an opportunity for business exchanges involving a large number of companies from new southern region. More than 800 people, including the companies who wish to make inroads into the new southern region, local global companies, specialists, and officials from the government and organizations participated in the event such as international forum, corporate seminar, one-on-one export consultation, etc. and sought ways to achieve mutual prosperity.


    Kim Young-joo, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association that hosted the event, said "The wave of the digital economy is spreading all over the world, starting from the new southern region." He stressed, This Korea-ASEAN & India Business Week 2019 will be a meaningful time for the global economy to seek new growth engine.


    At the 'New South Digital Economic Forum' held on 25th, global business executives from the new south region such as global e-commerce companies like Indonesia's Lazada Group and Singapore's Shopee, and Thailand's largest shared office startup Hubba and India’s Invest India participated as speakers and discussed utilization of e-commerce in new southern area, startup ecosystem and tech-startups’ success stories, and cooperate measured for the future vision of smart mobility.


    Park Dong-hyun, a senior economist at Asia Development Bank (ADB), participated as a moderator of the e-commerce session and said "With the spread of e-commerce and the convenience of payment, transactions across borders are becoming more common. He elaborated, The integration of the e-commerce market in Asia has been accelerated with the global players such as Rajada, Shoppee and Expedia."


    Kim Do-hyun, dean of graduate school of global startup venture at Kookmin University, said, "The mobile-based digital economy is emerging centering on the new southern region, and its success is not following the existing rules. He stressed, It is necessary to create a fertile environment in Asia through the close technology cooperation between countries in which more start startups can grow and produce unicorn companies like the second Grab and Go-Jek. "

    At the ‘One-on-one Meeting with Big Buyers from New South Region' carried out along with the forum, an Indonesian distribution big buyer DiMarco and the company N that exports portable fire extinguisher signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) worth about 500,000 dollars.

    At the consultation session, 41 buyers from eight Asian countries participated and carried out business meetings with 300 Korean exporters. Major buyers, including Singapore's largest supermarket chain FairPrice, Internet shopping mall Rajada and Shopee, Nature's Basket with supermarket chains in 125 cities in India, India's largest home shopping company Home Shop 18, Indonesia's largest book publishing and media group Gramedia and the country’s number one home shopping Lejel Shopping took part in the event.
