    KITA & MOTIE Held ‘Korea-Central Asia Economic Cooperation Strategy Meeting’


    - Start to operate public- private joint support system for entering into Central Asia -



    The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman, Kim Young-joo) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy jointly held ‘The 1st Korea-Central Asia Economic Cooperation Strategy Meeting’ at COEX in Samseong-dong on June 21st.


    This meeting was designed to evaluate the results of the economic cooperation with the region after President Moon Jae-in’s visit to three Central Asian countries in April and to seek entry strategies.


    The companies that have already entered into Central Asian countries, including GS E&C, Hyundai Engineering participated in the meeting and shared business status and requested government’s supports regarding their difficulties such as unreasonable systems and practices like mandatory employment of local workers and payment delinquency, expansion of information on local market and project information, and policy financing.  


    Kim Young-joo, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, said in his speech, "Central Asian nations are pursuing industrial diversification policies such as fostering manufacturing and new industries by moving away from the energy-and-resource-oriented economy. I am looking forward to seeing the expansion of the Korean companies with global technological competitiveness into various fields, such as information and communication technology (ICT) area.


    Minister Sung Yoon-mo of Trade, Industry and Energy said, If the two parties cooperate based on the strong will of the Central Asian countries, the three Central Asian countries will become the ‘new northern Vietnam’. He also added, "We will hold the Korea-Central Asia Economic Cooperation Strategic Meeting on a regular basis, and we will strengthen cooperation with Central Asian countries based on it.
