    Future of Korea- Hong Kong in 4th Industrial Revolution


    -     KITA held Korea-Hong Kong Business Round Table Sought cooperation in AI and FinTech, etc. - 


    The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman, Kim Young-joo) held ‘The 18th Korea-Hong Kong Business Round Table (BRT)’ at COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul on May 29.


    This year marks the 25th anniversary the Korea-Hong Kong Business Round Table. It was first co-organized by the Korea International Trade Association and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in 1993. In this BRT, active discussions on economic cooperation between Korea and Hong Kong were carried out under the theme of the fourth industrial revolution, including artificial intelligence (AI), FinTech, biotech, and supports for start-ups.


    Chairman Kim Young-joo of the Korea International Trade Association said in his welcoming speech, "Like Korea, which is establishing a comprehensive national strategy and policy for the development of the fourth industrial revolution, Hong Kong is making generous investment in the related areas under the government’s leadership. I hope that Korea and Hong Kong can develop the relationship into a future-oriented one by cooperating with each other in the fourth industrial revolution areas. "


    A senior researcher Lee Jang-kyu at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy said in the first session, Although Korea has manufacturing-oriented industries, its service sector is growing rapidly and it is possible to cooperate with Hong Kong, the service powerhouse. Jang Young-seung who made a presentation in the second session introduced a market for social robots with artificial intelligence (AI), products and a revenue model analysis. SenseTime, the largest AI unicorn company in China, shared the cases that applied core technologies such as face recognition and autonomous navigation in financial, security and smart phones.


    In the afternoon, there were one on one business consultation meetings between 15 companies from Hong Kong and 40 Korean companies. The delegation of BRT from Hong Kong will visit Samsung Innovation Museum, Seoul Startup Hub, LH the Smartium and Ansan Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center during their stay in Korea.
