opens ‘Support Center for GDPR Responses’ in Brussels Branch
- To be prepared for the implementation of
EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from
May 25 -
The Korea International
Trade Association (Chairman, Kim Young-joo) opened ‘The Support Center for the
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Responses’ in its Brussels Branch on
May 23 (local time) and started to provide full support for Korean companies
operating in the European Union to resolve the difficulties with regards to
GDPR.
The GDPR
will be applied to organizations across the world from May 25 and it is
expected to have a considerable impact on the business of Korean companies
dealing with the personal information of EU residents. Compared to the past,
more thorough information management, including the right to access to personal
data and right to correct inaccurate information, is required. The companies in
breach of GDPR can be fined up to 4% of annual global turnover or 20 Million
Euros.
KITA’s
Support Center for the GDPR Responses will inform Korean companies of the
implementation plan of the GDPR and the response guidelines. It will also hold
seminars and consultation sessions for Korean businesses in the EU.
Deputy
Minister Lee In-ho of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ambassador Kim Hyeong-jin of
the Korean Embassy to Belgium / EU, Park Yeon-woo, head of KITA’s Brussels
Office and representative economic figures in Belgium participated in the opening
ceremony of the Support Center for GDPR Responses.
Park Yeon-woo,
head of KITA’s Brussels Office said, “The Korea International Trade Association
has been carrying out promotions and projects, including monitoring the GDPR
legislation trends and holding seminars and conferences by inviting EU
executive officials in order to support Korean companies.” He also stated,
“With the establishment of the support center, we will make more efforts to
raise awareness of Korean companies and strengthen their response
capabilities.”
